Measuring success in the hotel industry. It’s not all you!

Success: the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.

When we talk about success in hotels, we usually picture the General Manager. The executive. The title.

But that’s only part of the story.

True hotel success belongs to everyone.

It belongs to the room attendant who delivers a spotless room and earns a 90% satisfaction score. It belongs to maintenance teams who keep everything working flawlessly. It belongs to front desk staff who create a warm welcome. It belongs to dishwashers, chefs, servers - every single shift.

When I was a waiter, I measured success by a guest’s thank you… and the tip at the end of the meal. But even that depended on the kitchen and the stewarding team behind me.

Hotels are filled with people from every corner of the world - immigrants, parents, students, professionals starting over - all striving to succeed in their own way.

Not everyone wants to climb the ladder. And that’s okay.

Because success isn’t just a title.

It’s doing your job well. It’s contributing to the guest experience. It’s showing up every day with pride.

My career success was built on countless others succeeding beside me.

And for that - I am grateful.
