Meetings, a waste of time?

In my career, I’ve seen two types of General Managers.

The first is the dictator.

He holds meetings to announce decisions. He speaks. Others listen. Creativity is silent. Dialogue is dead. If that’s your style, cancel the meeting. You’re wasting everyone’s time.

The second is the democratic leader.

This GM understands something simple: You cannot run a hotel alone.

A good meeting is not a monologue - it’s alignment.

Department heads share the week behind and the week ahead. Finance shares performance. Operations share challenges. Guest feedback is discussed openly.

And most importantly - appreciation is given.

A meeting is expensive in time and money. It must create clarity, cooperation, and trust.

Never use a meeting to punish. Use it to unite.

Because when information flows properly, the hotel runs properly - even when you’re not there.
