Do you even know how your employees are doing?

Many General Managers believe they know how their staff feels.

Results are good. Guests are happy. Budgets are met.

But that doesn’t mean you know your people.

A quick “Good morning” in the hallway isn’t leadership. Relying only on HR reports isn’t connection.

In too many hotels, staff remain nameless faces to the GM. And that’s why true leaders are rare.

Real leaders are remembered years later. They impact lives.

A great GM understands that profits are the result of happy, engaged employees.

But happiness isn’t accidental. It requires structure.

Clear rules. Proper training. Defined expectations. Clean uniforms. Good staff meals. Fair shifts. Respect. Regular feedback. Career paths. Recognition of birthdays and milestones.

People need to feel appreciated. They need guidance. They need to feel known.

Culture doesn’t happen by chance - it’s built deliberately.

And when you truly know your people, the rewards go far beyond profit.

That’s real leadership.
