In praise of honesty

As far back as I can remember, I’ve kept my word.

Not because it was convenient. Because it was honest.

Honesty isn’t situational. It’s a life choice.

Over the years, I’ve seen leaders who break agreements simply because they believe they can. Power. Position. Wealth. They act like “Pashas” - sitting on thrones, disregarding contracts, promises, even handshakes.

They give orders and demand respect.

But here’s the truth: if you have to remind someone you’re the boss… you’re not leading.

Respect is earned. And dishonesty destroys it instantly.

I’ve seen managers who didn’t trust their own people - who gave the same task to five employees out of paranoia. The result? Confusion. Frustration. Zero trust.

Dishonest leaders often lack confidence. So they replace integrity with authority. They mistake fear for respect.

But real leaders?

They keep their promises. They honor agreements. They shake hands - and mean it.

There is no shortcut to earning respect.

But there is one sure foundation for true leadership:

Be honest.

At the end of the day, honesty lets you look people in the eye - and know you earned your place.

That’s leadership.
